No sound problems in Vista

It is ironic that an operating system called Vista has problems with the administration of … sound. But it is. Changing Audio Levels in XP was pretty simple: by double-clicking the speaker of the taskbar opened a mixer with the controls.

Vista, in an effort to simplify what is already working well, has slightly complicated the sound system, being more powerful and less intuitive than before. I quickly explain how to perform some useful actions such as choosing the recording device, change the volume of the microphone on or off the annoying system beep – yeah, that makes beep.I speak into the microphone but I can not hear!

There are two reasons why a microphone attached to the computer does not work. The first is that it is selected as recording device. To check, click the right mouse button on the speaker icon and click Recording Devices:

Menu contextual de sonido

This will open the Sound control panel on your tab Record. The device will have the green marker that is enabled to receive signals. In this case, as you can see, the system records sound from the input line, which has nothing to do with the microphone:

LĂnea de entrada activa en el panel de sonido

To activate the microphone as the default recording device, click the right button on it and choose Set as Default Device. The green check mark will pass the microphone. Also make sure it is enabled:

Mostrar dispositivos deshabilitados

If you see the icon is gray and semi-transparent, you are disabled. Always right click, choose show disabled devices (1) and then activates the microphone (2).
No sound!

If you do not hear much and the sound control on the taskbar does not satisfy you, you reopen the audio panel with the right mouse button. This time, choose the Playback devices:

Abrir Dispositivos de reproduccion

The output device you need to activate and predetermined, following the steps above, it is usually Speakers. Check their opening levels and choosing Properties tab Levels:

Propiedades de Altavoces

What do you familiar? Indeed, the tab Levels not more than the old sound mixer upright. The sliders (1) change the output volume for each component, while the blue buttons (2) the activated or deactivated. The same goes for the microphone volume:

Volumen de microfono

Depending on the drivers and your sound card you could see more ways to amplify the signal beyond the normal range or use filters to the noise. If you are not sure you have the latest drivers, uses DriverMax or RadarSync. You can also check our driver section.
No more beeps! I want to disable the internal speaker!

The system beep is, in the opinion of many, a hellish monstrosity pita most inopportune times. To disable it in Windows Vista, open Control Panel and double-click the Device Manager or in Classic View View hardware and devices in normal view, after having opened the Hardware and Sound:

Hardware y sonido

Once you open the Device Manager, active Show Hidden Devices on the View menu will appear a series of icons with a gear orange. You see Beep? Is responsible for issuing those annoying beeps. Open it by double-click and go to the Driver tab:

Propiedades de Beep

If the status is Started press Stop (1). Then, for the Beep do not re-start a second time, select the type Disabled drop-down list of Start (2). Finally, click OK (3).

And you? What you’ve had problems with sound in Windows Vista?
